Photograph of "fast Ice" with glacier in distance
North of Arctic Circle Svalbard
"Fast Ice" is solid ice attached to shoreline. Ships are not allowed to break the solid sheet except under certain circumstances. This photograph was taken when we disembarked the ship to experience being on "fast ice." March 2026. Photo © copyright by Gary Silvey.
